Graphic Design Program Area In the Graphic Design Program, courses are designed to stimulate and develop conceptualization and design capabilities-while practical hands-on lab classes emphasize critical production skills in design, visual communications and graphics. This program area begins with a core of basic skills training and gradually builds to more advanced graphic design techniques including computer graphics, animation and multimedia. Students can develop traditional and computer graphics skills utilizing the equipment and software currently used in the field. The general education component of the Graphic Design Program is designed to enhance these technical skills for career development by adding broad-based problem-solving and human relations insights from other academic disciplines. Various business subjects are also integrated into the curriculum to provide additional structure and support for students pursuing careers in the field of computer graphics, web design, and graphic design. This program area of Visual Communication is designed to provide the student with the education and skills necessary for a career in the graphic design industry and is taught on a professional level that can provide for both job entry and future career growth in the field of graphic design. Graduates of this program area at IADT can pursue careers as a graphic designer, web page developer, illustrator, production artist, layout artist, electronic designer and visual journalist. A number of graduates can also pursue careers working as a freelance graphic designer. The employers in the visual communication and graphic design fields include advertising agencies, design studios, web site developers, corporate art departments, publishing houses, printing companies, record companies, newspaper and magazine publishers and full-service printing companies.
